As to the answer to this question, it is yes. Patients with kidney stone can eat egg white, but there is still something patients with kidney stone should know.

Kidney stone can not only cause pain also permanent damage to kidneys and it achieves this through two primary ways: one is that an untreated obstructing stone that causes persistent severe blockage instead of successfully passing can eventually cause atrophy in a kidney, resulting in a dilated, thinned out kidney with minimal function; another one is that infection related stones, usually composed of struvite and sometimes presenting as a complete “staghorn” can lead to ongoing chronic urinary tract infections that cause damage slowly through inflammation and scarring of the kidney tissue.

Once the kidney stone causes high creatinine, blood in urine and other symptoms caused by kidney damage, in order not to increase the kidneys’ burden, compared with yolk, egg white is preferable and the amount of egg white should also be reasonable. Every 100g egg white contains 10g protein, 0.1 g fat, calcium 19mg, phosphorus 16mg, iron 0.3mg, calcium 19mg, carbohydrate 1g, etc. On average an egg weights 50g and can provide 7g protein. Protein supplement for patients at early stages of kidney disease is 0.6-0.8g/kg.d. How much egg white to eat depends on patients’ specific condition and the extent of proteinuria.
