2013-05-08 14:53

Nephrotic Syndrome, orangeCan Nephrotic Syndrome patients consume orange? Well, we have to say that there is no a certain fruit or vegetable Nephrotic Syndrome or other kidney diseases patients must not eat, it depends on patients’ specific condition.

If Nephrotic Syndrome patients have high potassium level, then they are not allowed to consume orange. That is because high potassium level can affect the heart and can cause arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), in that case, in addition to orange, other potassium-rich foods like beans, bananas, potatoes, spinach, salmon, cod, etc will be forbidden. High potassium levels usually happen when Nephrotic Syndrome develops to advanced stage. Healthy kidneys remove the excess potassium out of body and keep potassium level at a normal level (3.5-5.5 mEq/L). While the amount of potassium in milligrams contained in orange is one small orange (237) or one-half of orange juice (236).

Nephrotic Syndrome patients can consume right amount of orange if their potassium levels in blood are normal. But they had better not consume it. Orange is cold in nature. The aged with deficiency-cold of stomach, intestines, kidney, and lung function should not eat too much, so as to avoid occurring symptoms of stomachache, aching and limp waist and knee. It will be easy to get inflamed, causing tongue festered, hot and pyogenic eyes, and piles. Orange contains erythrophyll, overeating will cause yellow pigment deposition.

According to your specific condition, your dietitian will help you play a reasonable diet, which to some extent slow down the progress of condition. But an efficient and natural treatment is still the most important thing for Nephrotic Syndrome patients.
